We pulled the questions people in the U.S. actually type into Google about wine, stripped out the duplicates and the noise, and ranked what was left. The result is less wine-snob and more survival guide. The single most-searched question is simply how many glasses you get out of a bottle — roughly 40,900 searches a month. (Five, from a standard 750 ml bottle, if you pour a normal 5-ounce glass.)
Then comes the part nobody brags about. The second and third most-asked questions are both about stains: how to get red wine out of clothes, and how to remove wine stains in general. Add the carpet, and three cleanup questions alone pull in more than 55,000 searches a month — nearly as much as every question about taste, grape and style combined. The most common wine emergency in America isn't choosing the wrong bottle. It's the moment after the glass tips over.
Sort the list into themes and a clear hierarchy appears. People want to know how much they're dealing with (glasses, ounces, calories, alcohol), whether it'll keep (opened bottles, the fridge, the freezer), whether it's doing anything to their body (good for you, gluten, pregnancy), and how to physically get into it (the eternal corkscrew problem, at 17,300 searches a month). Taste and tasting notes sit politely near the bottom.
Further down the ranking, the questions get more human. People ask whether Jesus drank wine (2,500/mo), whether wine is an aphrodisiac (1,000/mo), whether it's flammable (700/mo), and — touchingly, or alarmingly — whether dogs can drink wine (600/mo). Glasses of Wine in a Bottle Calculator →Data was retrieved from Ahrefs (Keywords Explorer, "matching terms") for the U.S. market in English on June 9, 2026. The dataset covers search phrases containing the word "wine." We removed phrases that aren't questions, plus results that contain "wine" without being about the drink (song and game titles, wine-vinegar and beer searches). Different phrasings of the same question were merged into one canonical question and their search volumes summed. After cleaning, 131 distinct questions remained; the 100 most-searched are shown here. Volumes are Ahrefs' modelled estimates and should be read as orders of magnitude, not exact counts.
