# Guide to the food calculators

The food calculators work out amounts and times in the kitchen: coffee and water for one cup or a crowd, oven bacon and boiled eggs, the slices in a loaf, baking ingredients between cups and grams, and how many glasses a bottle of wine or a keg of beer gives.

## Food

### [Baking Calculator](https://www.calculator.land/calculators/baking/)

Has two tabs. The ingredient converter turns an amount of any of 26 baking ingredients between volume (cups, tablespoons, teaspoons, ml, dl) and weight (grams, kilograms, ounces, pounds) using each ingredient's density, with a choice of cup size and of measuring method for flour, cocoa and cornstarch. The other tab converts oven temperatures between Fahrenheit and Celsius and describes how hot the oven is.

### [Egg Boiling Time](https://www.calculator.land/calculators/boil-an-egg/)

Works out the boiling time for an egg from its size or weight in grams, whether it starts in the fridge or at room temperature, which of four yolk textures from runny to hard you want, and the altitude. It shows the boiling point of water at that altitude, says when the water boils below the temperature the yolk needs, and has a countdown timer.

### [Glasses of wine in a bottle calculator](https://www.calculator.land/calculators/glasses-of-wine-per-bottle/)

Works out how many glasses a bottle of wine gives from the bottle size, from a split to a double magnum, and the pour per glass in ml or oz. For a group it works out the bottles needed from the number of people, glasses per person, an optional allowance for waste and, if you enter it, the price per bottle, and it can suggest glasses per person from the length of the event and the drinking pace.

### [How Many Beers in a Keg Calculator](https://www.calculator.land/calculators/beers-per-keg/)

Works out how many full glasses of beer a keg holds, for mini, metric and US barrel kegs or a custom volume in litres or US gallons, and glass sizes from 25 cl to a UK pint or a custom size. You can set a share lost to foam and waste, and it shows the beer left after that in litres and US gallons and the number of full servings in every standard glass size.

### [Oven Bacon Timing Calculator](https://www.calculator.land/calculators/bacon-in-oven/)

Suggests an oven temperature in °F and °C and a cooking time for bacon in the oven from the thickness, how crisp you want it, the number of strips, whether the oven is a convection oven and whether you use a wire rack. It shows when to start checking, a target time and a time range, the number of servings at two strips per person, and says when there are enough strips to need two trays.

### [Slices Per Loaf Calculator](https://www.calculator.land/calculators/slices-per-loaf/)

Works out how many usable slices a loaf gives from its length in centimetres or inches and the slice thickness of five bread types, with or without the heels, and has loaf-length presets for six regions. Given a number of items and slices per item, it shows how many loaves you need, rounded up, how many slices are left over and how much of the bread is used.

### [The Ultimate Brew & Crowd Coffee Calculator](https://www.calculator.land/calculators/coffee-amount/)

Works out the coffee and water for eight brewing methods, from drip and French press to espresso and Turkish coffee, from how much brewed coffee you want, the water you have or the coffee you have. It gives the coffee in grams and roughly in tablespoons, the water to pour and the final yield, with a slider for the coffee-to-water ratio, and for every method except espresso it allows for the water the grounds hold back. The event and daily-habit modes multiply the amount you want by the number of people or by 30 days and show roughly how many 340 g bags that takes.
